Mermaid, Flower Girl and Pony Lover. 2014 Holiday Recap

I’ve been fairly inconsistent in keeping the blog current regarding our family. The last few months have been as busy for us as they have been for you… So, here’s the holiday recap…
Halloween | This was the first year Rubina really voiced her opinion as to what she wanted to be. A mermaid. She was adamant but thankfully willing to budge on the red wig so long as I made her a mermaid crown. We were in the process of moving the week before Halloween so I put off making her costume until the night before. Story of my life. Anyway, it came together and she was thrilled. And ADORABLE.

Thanksgiving | We were SO happy to have my brother, Simeon, visit us for Thanksgiving. It was our third year in a row having guests and we love this tradition…whose coming next year?? Rubina and I had a lot of fun making feather and leaf decorations. We also made personalized place cards where I wrote out what she was thankful for about Daddy, Uncle Sim and me. Daddy’s and Uncle Sim’s were precious… “I’m thankful daddy plays with me, loves me and takes me on dates just the two of us” and “I’m thankful Uncle Sim draws ponies for me and plays with me a lot!”. When I said, “What are you thankful for about your momma?” She rapidly replied, “I’m thankful that you’re always eating with me. We like to eat a lot.” From the mouths of babes…am I right? Good to know I’m really making an impact on her…

Christmas | We went to Portland for Christmas for the first time in 5 years. Rubina was the flower girl in my sweet cousins wedding a few days before Christmas so we decided the timing was perfect. The wedding was beyond lovely; each detail sweeter than the last. The bride, Alli, and 2 of her siblings were a part of my wedding, I was her moms flower girl and her mom was a jr. bridesmaid at my parents wedding; a lot of tradition there and I love it! There was an overwhelming feeling of love and faith at this wedding; it was felt by all who attended and just poured out of the beautiful bride and her handsome groom.
A lot happened on Christmas Day; we were thankful to have started the day with Kevin’s family and extended family and end it with mine. Rubina loves spending time with all of her cousins and grandparents. She is incredibly blessed. We are incredibly blessed. Unfortunately, my mom was admitted to the hospital on Christmas morning so we ended up taking Christmas to her. I’m happy to have had so much time with her even if a lot of it was in her hospital bed. She’s a gracious woman; never expressing even one complaint during all of her suffering.

New Years | The final holiday of 2014 was sort of a bust. After several flight delays, we finally made it home to own beds in Denver at 3:30am on New Years Day. So…we celebrated New Years at 2pm on the 1st day of 2015…

And in honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day today…here are some of my favorite wise words…

“If you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t run, then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”

-Martin Luther King Jr.
