Guest Post by Mackenzie Ford of Make it Fresh Fitness | Clean Eating Snacks

Mackenzie

Hello, my name is Mackenzie, a friend of Reshma’s and lover of health & fitness. I am so honored to be able to share a bit of my passion with all of you here at Written. Completing college with a degree in health and fitness has blessed me with the tools and skills I need to not only live a healthy lifestyle but also share it with those around me.

I have found a love for finding creative ways to eat clean and stay active. I don’t believe in diets. I believe in clean eating which means eating fresh fruits, vegetables, whole wheat/grains and lean meats and avoiding any processed foods, fast food, unnatural sugar, etc. It’s a great way to eat healthy in a realistic way, unlike many diets, which restrict important food groups. That being said, I am going to share with you 3 of my favorite ‘clean’ snack ideas! Enjoy!

1 | Toasted Whole Wheat English Muffin with Fresh Vegetables

When I am in the mood for something with a little substance, this is my go-to. It is quick, easy and sure to satisfy! You can also use toast or a bagel and I typically top mine with smashed avocado, sliced tomato and some fresh ground black pepper. Avocados are delicious and provide your body with a lot of potassium and fiber.

2 | Greek Yogurt Parfait.

Layer a cup with Greek yogurt, fresh berries, granola and organic non-sweetened coconut flakes. Aim to use plain nonfat Greek yogurt. Flavored Greek yogurt is very high in sugar. If you feel the plain is too tart, try adding a hint of natural honey. Just 1-cup of Greek yogurt contains 23 grams of protein, which will help keep you feeling fuller for longer.

3 | Brown Rice Cake with Natural Almond Butter, Fresh Strawberries and Cinnamon

The crunch of a rice cake paired with a bit of salt from the almond butter and sweetness of the strawberries makes for a perfect combination. Almond butter is an excellent source of protein and very yummy!

Pairing a clean diet with daily exercise is the key to a healthy lifestyle. Today, we live in a world of dieting and quick fixes that leave people only temporarily satisfied. Unfortunately, most of these are either unrealistic and/or unhealthy to maintain. It is important to enjoy life and do what we can to take care of our bodies by fueling them with natural foods that don’t have a book of unrecognizable ingredients on their labels. Your body will thank you for filling it with fresh and natural foods.

It’s a simple concept | Eat good, Feel good!

  1. Foods take varying paths of metabolism within the body, according to their diversity. They can occasion very different effects on hormones, hunger and the number of calories an individual burns.
